Clare has been specialising in the area of insurance litigation since 2004.  She was formerly a senior associate at Ebsworth and Ebsworth prior to joining Wotton + Kearney in May 2008.

Clare has been involved in some of the largest commercial litigation in recent Australian history including One.Tel, HIH, AWB, the James Hardie Commission and the Thredbo landslide.

Clare has extensive experience in insurance and reinsurance claims as well as D&O claims.  Clare has acted on behalf of a reinsurer in the HIH Commission and in relation to proceedings arising from the collapse of the HIH Group.  Clare also has extensive professional indemnity experience and has acted on behalf of insurers in significant claims both in the UK and Australia.  Clare has also acted extensively in claims against insurance brokers.

Clare's recent matters include:

  • representing parties throughout the HIH Commission and subsequent litigation;
  • acting on behalf of insurance brokers in insurance and reinsurance claims;
  • acting for lawyers, stockbrokers, investment advisers, architects, builders and certifiers in professional indemnity matters;
  • acting in D&O insurance litigation matters;
  • acting in matters involving death and total permanent disability claims in group policies; and
  • appearing in the District, Local, Supreme and Federal Courts as well as mediations and other alternative dispute resolution matters.

Clare has completed a secondment at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and has worked for a period at Herbert Smith in the United Kingdom.  Clare holds a Masters Degree in International Law.
