Callan has specialised in insurance law and commercial litigation since 2004. He is a former Senior Associate of Clayton Utz, having been with that firm for 5 and a half years before joining Wotton + Kearney in November 2009.
Callan has experience in a broad range of legal areas including D&O liability, professional indemnity, reinsurance, industrial special risks, construction and major projects, environment and planning, commercial litigation, trade practices and product liability.
Callan also has expertise in alternate dispute resolution, negotiation and facilitation. He has assisted government, major corporations and financial institutions including advising in relation to the James Hardie Special Commission of Inquiry, New Cap Reinsurance Scheme of Arrangement and the establishment of the Australian Terrorism Pool Corporation.
Callan's recent matters include:
- advising major corporations, insurers and government clients on a range of complex matters including policy and treaty wordings, coverage, disclosure, dispute resolution, financial services reform, indemnity and subrogation, employer vicarious liability, life insurance, environmental risk, environmental planning, misleading and deceptive conduct and commercial disputes;
- appearing as an advocate in the Local, District, Land and Environment, Supreme and Federal Courts;
- appearing as advocate in Coronial Inquests; and
- mediation, negotiation and facilitation advice and advocacy.
