Richard was admitted in 1994 and joined Wotton + Kearney in September 2014. Prior to this he spent 20 years practising in insurance and commercial litigation at leading Australian firms.
Richard’s areas of expertise include directors and officers and professional indemnity insurance. During his time in practice he has acted on a broad range of matters, including in relation to indemnity and coverage disputes, corporate insurance and insurance and legal risk management. In particular, Richard has acted in matters relating to:
- the James Hardie group and asbestos funding;
- the collapse of HIH; and
- terrorism insurance.
Richard has appeared in a number of jurisdictions in both NSW and Western Australia. He has also had carriage of matters in the High Court of Australia and appeared before a Special Commission of Inquiry in NSW.
Since 1999 Richard has presented an annual lecture “Introduction to Professional Indemnity Insurance” to the UNSW School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering.
