Wotton Kearney opened in Singapore in June 2024, becoming the first major Australian insurance and risk law firm to establish a dedicated Asia hub in Singapore. Led by Ben Nicholson, our Asia team embodies excellence in insurance and reinsurance law. Advising on all classes of specialty risk, the team has a strong focus on property, energy, and construction. In May 2025, the firm opened its office in Bangkok, Thailand, marking its 2nd office in Asia and 11th globally. The expansion further strengthens its footprint across the Asia Pacific region.

Ben Nicholson and his team bring unparalleled insight and experience across international insurance programs, complex and bespoke reinsurance structures and reinsurance regulatory issues.

Ben’s practice also includes advising on non-contentious insurance and reinsurance business across the region, including regulatory matters, product development and distribution mechanisms.

With years of experience across the Asia Pacific region and in the London Market, Wotton Kearney’s Asia team has a comprehensive understanding of insurance and reinsurance law and practice and the market nuances that impact on the way in which business is conducted and claims are resolved across the region.

Partner Ian Johnston leads the Thailand team. Johnston is a renowned insurance specialist and arbitrator, and his arrival to lead the new Bangkok office positions Wotton Kearney to better serve its growing client base across Asia, particularly in the energy, construction, and commercial sectors.
