Alison is experienced in professional negligence disputes and disciplinary proceedings for solicitors, trustees, architects, engineers and builders.  She also has experience in directors and officers criminal and civil proceedings. Alison advises both local and off-shore insurers in professional indemnity and D&O.

Alison has appeared as junior counsel in mediations, trials in the High Court and District Court as well as in professional disciplinary hearings. She has also covered a senior claims handling role specialising in professional indemnity claims on secondment with a New Zealand insurer.

 

  • Regularly advising on professional negligence claims against solicitors and professional trustees in the High Court and District Courts, including where complaints to the New Zealand Law Society have been made.
  • Advising on High Court proceedings where professional trustees have been implicated in alleged fraudulent activity by co-trustees.
  • Advising professional directors on criminal proceedings for alleged breaches of the Companies Act 1993.
  • Assisting with professional negligence claims against builders and architects in large scale leaky building claims, including appearing as junior counsel in the Auckland High Court representing Underwriters as a third party on a high value claim.
  • Working on professional negligence claims brought against engineers in multi-party defective building claims and failed remediation claims following the Canterbury Earthquakes.
  • Assisting with coverage advice for insurers in high profile finance company claims where the directors were involved in criminal and civil proceedings, including attending interlocutory hearings.
