Blake supports clients through their largest and most important challenges and specialises in protecting against reputational risk. He is a trusted advisor to some of Australia’s leading institutions, government departments, regulators and public figures. He practices in all major torts and liability and has appeared in all courts, acting in matters at the trial division, Courts of Appeal and applications to the High Court of Australia.

Additionally, Blake has an established media and entertainment law practice, providing breach of confidence, privacy and defamation advice to individuals, institutional media and online intermediaries. He also has experience in assisting clients in giving evidence to Royal Commissions, special inquiries and prosecutions.

Blake also acts as a Disciplinary Tribunal member for Cricket Victoria.

  • Acting for both publishers and public individuals in a variety of media and entertainment disputes, assisting with pre-publication advice, defamation responses, reputational risk advice, general advice, law reform and trials.
  • Acting for Simon Overland APM, the former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, assisting Mr Overland for over two years in his evidence before the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (the ‘Lawyer X’ inquiry) and various media actions following his evidence.
  • Acting for Watsons Pty Ltd and John Woodman in IBAC’s Operation Sandon – an investigation into property development dealings in the Casey area – which involved arguments regarding legal professional privilege, directors’ duties, allegations of proceeds of crime, and witness management.
  • Acting on instructions from a wide range of institutions regarding allegations against their employees / volunteers / contractors of current and historical sexual and physical abuse.
  • Acting for a Victorian Government agency in a wide range of judicial review proceedings, commercial litigation and public interest proceedings, including advising on claims of legal professional privilege and public interest immunity.
  • Acting for a Federal Government agency employee falsely accused of leaking sensitive information to the media.
  • Acting for individual firefighters called to give evidence during the Environment Protection Authority’s prosecution of offences arising from the 2014 Hazelwood mine fire.
