Connect with meChris is an experienced litigator with a particular focus on defending health professionals in the County and Supreme Courts. He provides a pragmatic approach to defending sensitive and complex legal claims.
Chris acts for health professionals and major insurers in the health space. He manages claims for medical and allied health practitioners, which includes responding to disciplinary complaints under AHPRA investigation and assisting with coronial inquiries.
Chris represents and provides advice on complex legal issues to a broad range of medical and allied health practitioners, including individuals in general and specialist medicine and surgical.
Chris also acts in the defence of institutional risk and liability claims. In addition to defending litigated and non-litigated claims, he has assisted these clients in National Redress Scheme claims for compensation and in each organisation’s own pastoral response programs. Whilst acting in this space, Chris has developed extensive experience in both litigated claims in various jurisdictions and in alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Working with medical indemnity insurers to provide complex advice in informal and litigated matters on:
- medical negligence proceedings, including those arising from loss of life, nervous shock, misdiagnosis, surgical error and misadministration
- disciplinary and regulatory claims for a range of health professionals through AHPRA, and
- coronial inquests.
- Successfully resolving sensitive medical negligence claims involving multiple plaintiffs and defendants.
- Acting for medical professionals in Coronial and disciplinary matters across a number of jurisdictions, including Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.
- Advising uninsured entities on multi-million dollar claims for complex psychiatric injuries in the Supreme Court of Victoria, requiring extensive evidence disentangling pre-existing psychiatric conditions.
- Advising insurers on complex quantum, indemnity, and coverage issues.
- Defending a large number of claims related to injuries sustained from asbestos exposure on behalf of a manufacturer of asbestos.
- Successfully pursuing contribution and recovery claims from various insurers and uninsured entities.
