Edward is a health law specialist with over 10 years’ experience representing public health services and health practitioners in the full range of issues affecting the sector. Edward’s expertise includes litigated civil proceedings in state and federal courts, medical negligence proceedings, class action proceedings, coronial inquests, and regulatory and disciplinary matters.
Edward has a particular interest in cyber and privacy issues in the government health sector, as well as a broad pro bono practice. He takes pride in his strong client relationships and reputation for both his technical expertise and compassionate handling of complex and sensitive files – particularly wrongful death, wrongful birth, and indigenous deaths in custody.
- Obtaining a Victorian Court of Appeal judgment in favour of a metropolitan public health service in medical negligence proceedings regarding reliance on “usual practice” evidence.
- Conducting a judicial review into Medical Panels’ authority to make determinations as to medical causation of impairment.
- Providing coverage advice to reinsurers with respect to multiple class action proceedings brought against the State of Victoria for infection prevention and control actions taken in response to COVID-19.
- Providing advice to State Government entities regarding statutory privacy implications of data breaches by contractors.
- Obtaining a Full Federal Court of Appeal judgment in favour of a pro bono client, clarifying the Federal Government’s interpretation of Medevac provisions in the Migration Act 1958.
