Peter has 19 years of experience representing property, construction, and specialty insurers across Australia and internationally. He leads the Queensland division of WK’s Property, Energy & Infrastructure practice.

​Peter provides coverage advice on complex first party property and contract works claim, predominantly in the ‘biz-pack’, ISR and large-scale construction project markets.​ His expertise includes policy response and interpretation to material damage issues and intricate business interruption claims.

Collaborating closely with a network of local specialist adjusters, Peter helps insurers resolve complex claims efficiently and cost-effectively.

A significant part of his practice involves pursuing subrogated recoveries for ISR and contract works insurers. He works with trusted experts in fire investigation and root cause analysis to assess recovery prospects early, helping insurers avoid unnecessary costs. To date, he has recovered tens of millions of dollars for both local and international insurers.

Peter also handles complex third-party property damage claims in the construction industry, particularly for local insurers and the Lloyd’s market. He has a strong track record in defending claims against plumbing and electrical contractors.

  • Acting for an international construction liability insurer and their trade contractor insured on a post-Cyclone $20 million defective works claim currently listed on the Supreme Court of Queensland’s Building, Engineering & Construction List
  • Acting for the Lloyd’s market and their contractor insured on a multi-party residential property subsidence claim currently listed on the Supreme Court of Queensland’s Building, Engineering & Construction List
  • Acting for local and international market of insurers on a $10 million first party contract works claim arising from secant pile wall movement, and taking charge of the recovery against several engineering consultants
  • Acting for a local strata insurer on a first party water damage claim relating to a failed fire protection system installed in a high-end Gold Coast apartment complex, and overseeing recovery investigations
  • Acting on coverage and defense for a $180 million liability claim against a construction contractor relating to damage caused to a major piece of Brisbane public infrastructure
  • Recovering circa $8 million for a market of local and international ISR insurers of a home maker centre in Northern NSW significantly damaged by a lithium battery fire within a tenancy.
  • Acting for a structural engineer in relation to a high profile multi-million misleading and deceptive conduct and professional negligence claim case-managed in the Supreme Court of Queensland relating to defective concrete specifications. Peter secured a favourable result at mediation prior to the litigation and defence costs significantly advancing.
  • Acting as defence counsel for one of the four Wivenhoe Dam engineers in the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry which was one of the most high-profile public inquiries in Australia’s history.
  • In 2019 advising a major international heavy equipment insurer on two first-party claims involving mining equipment losses on Queensland mine sites concerning mining equipment with sum insured values up to $6 million, and receiving subsequent instructions to pursue recovery actions against international mining corporations.
  • Acting for commercial project managers in relation to a Supreme Court claim for breach of contract and negligence brought by a developer relating to significant construction losses arising from an alleged failure concerning Fire Authority approvals for the development. Outcome – resolved at mediation prior to the litigation and defence costs significantly advancing.
  • Acting for a structural engineer in a multi-million-dollar litigated claim brought by a major Queensland building contractor concerning defective structural foundations of a 64-unit complex, case managed in the Supreme Court of Queensland. Outcome – resolved at mediation prior to the litigation and defence costs significantly advancing.
